Chess Hawks Win Scholarships/Prizes at Cleveland Scholastic Open
Hawken Lower, Middle, and Upper School Chess Hawks Sophie Baum ’28, Shivam Engineer ’22, Arnav Guda ’30, Edward Huang ’22, John Joyce ’25, Brennen Keuchel ’19, Destynn Keuchel ’22, Praveen Kumar ’22, Rahul Reyes Sundaram ’27, Rohan Reyes Sundaram ’25, Eli Rutherford ’28, Daniel Van Heeckeren ’22, and Daniel Xu ’25 participated in the seventh annual Cleveland Scholastic Open held at John Carroll University on October 13, 2018.
In the K-4 Novice section, Sophie took fifth place, while in the 5-12 Novice section, Daniel and Shivam tied for fifth and third place and came in sixth and fourth place respectively. Praveen won the section with four wins and a draw. Destynn, also with four wins and a draw, won the high school rated section and was awarded scholarships from two universities. Brennen, who has won the high school section for the past two years, competed in the collegiate section, where he finished third and received a cash prize.
