Stirn Hall

Hawken opened the Gates Mills campus in 1961 to 134 Upper School students. With enrollment having grown to over 520 students, Hawken undertook its most significant capital expansion in nearly 50 years during its 100th anniversary year: the construction of Stirn Hall.
This new academic building, made possible by an $8 million challenge grant from The Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation, has equipped Hawken's faculty with the physical space needed to execute the School's forward-focused educational mission.
Highlights of this state-of-the art building include:
Renovation of classrooms to better reflect the curriculum and schedule
  • Expanded classrooms to allow for future innovations in curriculum and individualized learning
  • More student movement, engagement and small group activities
  • Teaching spaces as laboratories for experiential, hands-on, participatory and group learning
