RSVP for September and October Campus Visits

Shadow Days and Screenings

Students applying to Preschool, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten will schedule two visits to Hawken. The initial visit will consist of a tour of the school prior to returning for the Early Childhood screenings which will be held on January 26, 2018 for Preschool applicants, and January 27, 2018 for Prekindergarten and Kindergarten applicants. 

Students applying to Grades 1-5 will visit classes for a full day and tour the campus. Both a math and reading assessment will be administered during the individual visit day.

Students applying to Grades 6-8
 will visit classes for a full day and tour the campus. Parents are encouraged to take a campus tour and to meet with a member of the admission staff. Please call the Lower & Middle School Admission Office at 440-423-2950 to secure your appointments.

Students applying to grades 9-12 will visit classes, tour the campus and have an interview. If the applicant would like to meet with a particular coach, activity leader or instructor, please inform the Admission Office when the visit day is arranged. Parents are encouraged to take a campus tour and to meet with a member of the admission staff. Please call the Upper School Admission Office at 440-423-2955 to schedule a personal visit day.

Application Timelines

Hawken School is currently taking applications on a space-available basis for the 2017-2018 school year. To inquire, please email admissions@hawken.edu or call 440-423-2950 (grades Preschool-8), or 440-423-2955 (grades 9-12).

Families interested in applying for the 2018-2019 school year should begin the application process after September 1, 2017. Once in process, please follow the schedule below:

Visiting Hawken's Campus

Preschool-Grade 8: Visit Day or Early Childhood Screening
Students applying to Preschool, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten will schedule two visits to Hawken. Recommendation Forms

Preschool-Grade 5
Hawken requires Teacher and Head/Principal/Counselor recommendations for applicants to Grades 1-5 and an Early Childhood Recommendation for Preschool, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten applicants who are currently in a a school program.

Grades 6-12
Hawken requires recommendations from an applicant's current English and math teachers and the Head/Principal/Counselor.

An optional Personal Recommendation may also be submitted for Preschool – 12th Grade applicants by an adult who knows the applicant well, such as a coach, clergy member, scout leader, music or art instructor, a neighbor or an additional teacher. All teacher recommendations are submitted through the online application process.

School Transcripts

Applicants to Grades 1-12 should arrange for an official copy of their transcript to be sent directly to Hawken's Admission Office by submitting the School Records Release form to their current school. Hawken requires transcripts from the 2016-2017 (through at least the first marking period) and 2015-2016 academic years.

Testing

Preschool-Grade 4
Applicants to Hawken Lower School will be administered age-appropriate standardized tests, screenings, and evaluations as part of the admission process.

Grade 5-8
The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is required for students applying to Grade 5-8. Students wishing to be considered in the regular applicant pool should take the ISEE prior to the end of December 2017. Applicants may register online for the test at iseetest.org. Please note that the deadline to register for the test is three weeks prior to the test date. Hawken's Lower and Middle School ISEE code is 365940.

The ISEE is offered at Hawken’s Lyndhurst campus for applicants to Grades 5-8 on the following dates:
November 18, 2017
December 9, 2017
February 10, 2018
March 10, 2018

Grade 9-12
