Upcoming Senior Helps Develop App to Beat Tobacco Addiction
Through his summer internship undertaken as part Hawken’s STEMM program, Nikhil Goel ’19 participated on a small team at CWRU working to develop an app interface designed to help tobacco users quit smoking.
Goel, along with fellow contributors, including researchers at Case School of Engineering and a clinical psychologist at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, devised a mobile alert system that combines mindfulness training, a personalized plan for quitting, armband sensors to detect smoking motions, and personalized, motivational text-messages.
