Job description: Grounds Technician
 
(A) Position summary:
The Physical Plant Grounds Technician reports to the Physical Plant - Plant Operations Supervisor and is responsible for performing grounds and maintenance duties which relate to the school facilities and grounds. Accept the responsibility for the care, condition, appearance, repair or replacement of physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and grounds as assigned.
The Grounds Technician assumes responsibility for all equipment, systems, materials, supplies and tools utilized in the performance of duties and ensures safe practices at all times for self, co-workers, students, visitors and staff. This position is designated as “Essential Personnel” and requires the incumbent to interact with the School during emergency situations and be available to work scheduled weekends.
 
(B) Nature and scope:
This position works in and around buildings and grounds located on the School Campuses. This position is critical to the safe operation and School and requires the ability to work as a team. The work schedule is primarily first shift and involves overtime assignments. Assigned work includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Provide care for all school grounds including mowing, trimming, weeding, pesticide applications, and tree and shrub maintenance.
2. Perform general athletic field care, to include but not limited to, field lining, setup, irrigation operation and maintenance.
3. Supports campus special events, planned or unplanned utility outages and system and equipment breakdowns and repairs.
4. Avoids disrupting building activities during class hours, except during emergencies.
5. Follows and assists in the promotion of approved safety procedures. Participates in safety training as directed. Complies with safety regulations and environmental laws.
6. Establish inventory procedures for supplies, materials and equipment as assigned.
7. Assist in the development and operation of record keeping as requested.
8. Performs groundskeeping and maintenance duties as assigned by Supervisor.
9. Removes snow, ice, and debris as directed and serves as a member of the Hawken snow removal crew.
10. Picks up and delivers equipment, materials and other supplies as directed.
11. Inspects safety equipment (e.g. emergency lights, alarm systems, ground fault protectors, etc.) as directed.
12. Acts responsibly to protect school equipment and property. Takes appropriate action during adverse weather conditions.
13. Understands and uses crisis plan protocol to respond to emergencies.
14. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
15. Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
16. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
17. Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.
18. Maintains all equipment operating logs and work order documentation. Has a working knowledge of basic computer skills and computerized work order systems.
19. Conduct other duties related to the Grounds Technician position as assigned by Supervisor.
 
Qualifications:
? High School diploma
? Valid drivers’ license with good diving record, and must pass School insurance provider’s driver’s license check.
? Documentation of a clear criminal record with evidence from BCII and FBI.
? Demonstrate enthusiasm and a sincere desire to aid all students (4) Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend, crouch, reach, climb and work in high and/or confined spaces and work in hot and cold temperatures outdoors.
