7th and 8th Grade Writing Teams Take First Place
The Hawken Middle School Writing Team outperformed their peers at the district Power of the Pen competition held at Hathaway Brown on Saturday, February 6th. More than 200 writers from 18 schools competed in three consecutive 40-minute rounds. Coached by Laura Staufer, Hawken`s 7th and 8th grade teams both won first place as well as other individual awards. The 7th-grade team consisted of Alex Amin (tied 9th, overall), Francesca Cominelli (tied 9th, overall), Maddie Hengst, Valerie Heyd, Alison Jin (13th, overall, and "best of round"), and Parker Selman. The 8th-grade team consisted of Anna Du (4th, overall), Lena Goren, Sophie Kerman, Efae Nicholson (9th, overall), Elijah Spiro, and Sarah Stark (1st, overall). Congratulations to all on a stellar performance!
