Support Hawken

Hawken School, like all independent schools, relies on charitable gifts from alumni, parents, grandparents, parents of alumni, and friends to fulfill its mission.

We invite you to invest in our present and future with a tax-deductible contribution and are deeply grateful for your support.

Please contact the Development Office at 440-423-2965 if you have any questions.

  • Planned Giving

A “planned gift” is named as such because it is through thoughtful and long-term planning considerations that these gifts are made. Since its founding, Hawken has been the beneficiary of numerous planned gifts from alumni, parents, grandparents and friends, all of who wanted to help ensure that the current generation was passing along to succeeding generations the resources to maintain a nationally recognized independent day school. We recognize these donors in our Hawken Heritage Society.

If you’d like to make your own legacy gift to the School but are not yet ready to write a check or dispose of assets you may need during your lifetime, a planned gift may be the right vehicle for you. These gifts take many forms, including simple bequests (gifts from your Will), trusts, life insurance, retirement assets and/or real estate. Click here to learn more.

  • Capital & Endowment Gifts

Capital and endowment gifts provide lasting support for the general operating budget, financial aid, professional development, and building and maintaining facilities. Gifts to these purposes in all sizes demonstrate a firm commitment to the school's core values and the quality of learning and teaching at Hawken. We encourage you to take an active role in supporting the present and future of Hawken.

  • Tangible Personal Property (Gifts-in-Kind)

A gift of capital assets (art objects, rare books, equipment, antiques, etc.) may be given to Hawken School for its educational purposes or for sale, or may be sold by the donor for the immediate benefit of the school. Responsibility for appraisal rests with the donor.

  • Securities & Real Estate

Outright gifts of long-term appreciated securities and real estate held 12 months or more can result in a significant tax savings for the donor. For tax purposes, the value of the gift is its fair market value on the day it is given. Because you are not required to pay capital gains taxes on the appreciation of the stock, the actual cost to you is far less than the real value of your gift to Hawken School. You receive an income tax deduction for the full, fair market value of the gift, generally up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income.
