Graduate`s latest book offers `contrarian` view of Vietnam

jb
Maj. Gen. Robert Scales, in a recent Wall Street Journal book review, lamented the tendency of writers to disparage the Vietnam War as an all-out disaster. "All [writers] follow the same theology: Vietnam was a mistake, an American tragedy, a war of buffoonery and, it is often said, a war-mongering plot crafted by strategically tone-deaf policy makers and soldiers," he wrote. All writers, that is, until Dr. Mark Moyar `89. In his latest book, \"Triumph Forsaken,\" Moyar, according to Scales, turns popular opinion about Vietnam on its ear. "Mr. Moyar makes so many striking contrarian arguments [about the Vietnam War] that one hardly knows where to begin," said Scales. Moyar, who holds a B.A. in History from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in History from Cambridge University, has taught at Ohio State University, Texas A&M University and Cambridge University. He is currently an associate professor at the U.S. Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia. Read more about \"Triumph Forsaken\" at www.triumphforsaken.com.
