LOWER SCHOOL K–5 SCIENCE TEACHER (PART-TIME)

THE POSITION 
Hawken School is seeking a dynamic and innovative part-time educator to serve as a Lower School Science Teacher for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The ideal candidate is energized by designing hands-on, interdisciplinary science experiences that spark curiosity and build the habits of scientists and engineers.
This position requires strong collaboration with classroom teachers and special area faculty to ensure high-quality, inquiry-based science instruction. Candidates should be eager to work in an innovative and collaborative team-based environment and bring flexibility, creativity, and strong organizational skills to their work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create Engaging, Hands-On Learning Experiences – Design and implement inquiry-based science lessons for kindergarten through fifth-grade students that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Incorporate hands-on exploration, real-world connections, and interdisciplinary learning
  • Foster a Culture of Scientific Thinking – Support students in developing the habits of scientists and engineers through questioning, investigation, analysis, and reflection; leverage spaces such as the Innovation Lab and outdoor environments to deepen learning
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines – Partner with classroom teachers and special area faculty to integrate science into broader learning experiences and interdisciplinary projects
  • Ensure an Inclusive and Equitable Learning Environment – Create classroom environments where all students feel a sense of belonging and see themselves as capable learners; differentiate instruction to meet diverse needs
  • Engage in Continuous Learning and Growth – Participate in professional development and collaboration to strengthen science instruction practices
  • Contribute to the Broader School Community – Participate in school events, admissions efforts, and initiatives that support the mission and culture of the Lower School
