Cozying Up With a Good Book

The Lower School participated in a Read-In on January 6. The event came about after Lower School Director Kathie Macewan spoke with a 4th grader who really enjoyed his third grade \"read-in\" experience. There is a national read-in day in March is in honor of Dr. Seuss, in which students are encouraged to stop, drop and read. Though Hawken was a little early, the event was very successful. Some students brought their slippers and a favorite book. Fifth graderes enjoyed some time for a read-aloud, which Kathie Macewan said was real gift at that level. Other students brought a favorite stuffed animal and a book from home. Teachers embraced the event as well, some reading a professional book, others a personal favorite.
