Tennis Team Third in State

Boys tennis finished their season as Region Champions and finished at 3rd in the state in Division II play.

The team advanced to the State Final Four in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Division II Team Tournament by beating University School 3 courts to 1 in the Region Final. In that match, Hawken swept the singles matches with Dhruv Yadav ’14 winning at 1st singles, Adam Lee ’14 winning at 3rd singles, and Sid Ahuja ’14 avenged an earlier season loss at 2nd singles to clinch the match for the team. Hawken entered the State Tournament with a 13-1 record, their only loss a regular season match to Lexington HS. At states, they lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Cincinnati Country Day School, and then defeated Lexington HS in the 3rd/4th place match, winning 3-2. Read more about the match here.
 
Yadav (2nd) and Ahuja (4th) each placed at Districts earning a place in the OHSAA State Singles Tournament, played at Ohio State University. Both Sid and Dhruv fell in the first round.
 
Other season highlights included winning the Second Annual Richard S. Caraboolad Tournament held at Hawken. Hawken finished 1st as a team, with Yadav finishing first at 1st singles, Ahuja finishing 2nd at 2nd singles, and Lee finished 1st at 3rd singles. The 1st doubles team of Devesh Modi ’16 and Michael Lee ’17 finished second, and the second doubles team of Max Pollock ’14 and Josef Horwath ’17 finished 1st. University School was the team runner-up, Western Reserve Academy finished third.
 
The tennis team also finished the season as Chagrin Valley Conference Champions. in the league tournament, Sid Ahuja and Adam Lee finished first at 2nd and 3rd singles, Dhruv Yadav finished second at 1st singles, and Max Pollock and Ron Lubarsky '14 finished second at 2nd doubles. Devesh Modi and Michael Lee were CVC Honorable Mention. First year head coach Frank Polito was named CVC Coach of the Year.
 
Kush Khosla ’15 was also a key part of the varsity tennis squad. He played first doubles in several state-qualifying matches, including the US match. He was also on court for the win over Lexington at States.
