Henry Senkfor '14 has been awarded a prestigious Eli and Edythe Broad Student Research Fellowship grant from the American Gastroenterological Association.

The highly competitive research award is open to high school, undergraduate, graduate and medical student trainees who research digestive and liver diseases.

Starting with a summer STEMM project, Henry continued his work through last school year. His diligence and success paid off when he submitted a first-authored abstract to the Annual Digestive Disease Week held in Orlando in May. His project was accepted for a poster presentation and as part of the Award, Henry will continue working in the lab of Dr. Pizarro at the Case School of Medicine next summer.

"I am thrilled to be selected as a recipient of the 2013 AGA-Eli and Edythe Broad Student Fellowship," writes Henry on his award. "This grant will allow me to further the connection between interleukin-33 and epithelial repair and wound healing, which is the primary focus of my research. The ultimate goal of my research is to help find a cure for inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Crohn’s Disease."
