Mathcounts Team Clinches Second at State Competition

On Saturday March 13th at Columbus State College, four eighth grade Hawken students tested their mathematics skills by taking on three rounds of fast-paced problem-solving in the state Mathcounts competition. Shang-Shang Chen, Aric Floyd, Elliot Glazer, and Sarah Stark outranked all but one of the 45 teams representing Ohio Mathcounts chapters with their stellar performance on the two individual rounds, as well as the team component of the the contest. From the results currently available (on 3/15), three of our Hawken mathletes placed in the top 25% of all 200-plus team and individual competitors. Topping off the day, Elliot Glazer, with his second place individual title, earned a position on the Ohio team - which is comprised of the top-scoring four individuals. Elliot will travel to Orlando, Florida to represent our state and our school in the National Mathcounts Competition on May 8th. To Elliot, Shang-Shang, Sarah, and Aric, the Hawken community extends its heartiest congratulations for such diligence and achievement.
