Hawken Math Student No. 1 in Ohio

lvl
In late November, a well-trained and motivated group of Hawken middle school students took part in the national AMC-8 mathematics competition. Results were just announced and Mrs. Pam Richmann is thrilled to report that an eighth grader, Elliot Glazer, received the highest score in the state of Ohio. He will receive an elegant award plaque to commemorate the honor. Statewide, over 4,400 students typically compete in the competition - over 140,000, nationwide. American Mathematics Competitions have been administered for over 60 years. This is the 25th anniversary of the AMC-8 contest (the \"8\" refers to the highest grade level which can take part). It is a 40-minute, 25 question exam during which calculators cannot be used. According to the Mathematical Association of America, the purpose of the event is to \"increase interest in mathematics and to develop problem solving through friendly and fun competition. The questions range in difficulty from easy to very difficult in order to appeal to a broad range of students.\" Congratulations, Elliot!
