Students Shine in O.M.E.A. Sponsored Events

lvl
Last week, Eleanor Rimmerman, Noah Geller (grade 7), and Nils Gudbranson (grade 8) represented Hawken Middle School at the annual District VII Jr. High Honors Band sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association. Students nominated from 28 schools in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geagua Counties gathered for a full day of rehearsals under the direction of Dr. Gary Ciepluch, director of bands at Case Western Reserve University. After only a day of rehearsing, the band performed the next evening to an audience of family, friends, and area music teachers. Congratulations to Eleanor, Noah, and Nils for being nominated and for participating in this year`s Jr. High Honors Band! Every year throughout the state, the Ohio Music Education Association hosts Jr. High Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Events. Students are invited to perform alone or with a small group and then given a rating along with constructive comments. Over spring break, two Hawken Middle School students performed at this year`s event at Memorial Jr. High School in Lyndhurst. Seventh grade student Henry Senkfor performed Beethoven`s \"Fur Elise\" on the piano, and Nils Gudbrandson of the eighth grade played Handel`s \"Largo y Allegro\" on the alto saxophone. Congratulations to both students on their performances!
