Relay for Life This Saturday, May 17

Come out and join the fight against cancer as Hawken hosts its first Mini Relay on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from noon to midnight. Monetary support for the event, which supports the efforts of the American Cancer Society, has swelled to over $21,000, but organizers Samantha Kadis and Alex Dobay, both seniors, say they still need your help to reach the $25,000 fundraising goal. They also want to see as many members of the Hawken community as possible on Saturday. The event starts at noon with the Survivors Lap for those who have survived cancer and will be followed by the community relay. At dusk will be the historic Luminaria ceremony, where the names of those affected by cancer will be read while a candle is lit in their honor. Event organizers have also planned for a number of games and activities throughout the day, including rounds of Dunk-the-Teacher. Luminarias are still available and will be at the event. For a $10 donation, supporters can designate a candle or candles in support of someone who is fighting cancer, in honor of someone who has won the battle, or in memory of someone who lost the battle with cancer. We hope you will be able to join Hawken School at its Mini Relay and see what the students at Hawken are accomplishing! Come take up the fight against cancer!
