Ceramic Artist to Visit Lower School

Cleveland artist Angelica Pozo is our Hawken Lower School Visiting Artist this year. She is a ceramic tile-maker of note locally and nationally, and has been an instructor and artist-in-residence at dozens of schools throughout Ohio. She has served as a lecturer, juror, panelist, keynote speaker, and is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the Ohio Governor`s Award For the Arts (2001). Her artwork has been on exhibit throughout Ohio and beyond, and is in permanent collections in the American Craft Museum in N.Y., the Ohio Arts Council, Columbus, OH, the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center, Wilberforce, OH, Progressive Corp., and elsewhere. Some of her site specific Public Art includes Market Place/Meeting Place: An Urban Memorial at Gateway Sports Center, and Cleveland: Air Laboratory of the World at the Airport Rapid Station. Her recently published book, Making and Installing Handmade Tiles, is a premier how-to book in this field (Lark Books, 2005), and is available in local bookstores. In this return visit to Hawken (her first visit was 10 years ago), Ms. Pozo will be demonstrating her studio craft in the Link during the week of February 27 - March 3. She also will work directly with students in grades 1, 3, and 5 during their scheduled art classes, where they each will produce a personal clay tile. Ms. Pozo`s artwork will be on exhibit in the Taplin Lobby showcases as well. The entire Hawken community is invited to stop by to view Ms. Pozo at work during this exciting artist-in-residency week.
