Fall Athletics Highlights

Upper School The Men`s Varsity Soccer Team lost a heartbreaking double overtime shootout in the District Semifinals. Nonetheless, they were Chagrin Valley Conference (CVC) Champions. Misha Carrel-Thomas `07 was named CVC MVP, and Dani Guilvezan Coach of the Year. Women`s Varsity Soccer won the CVC Championship but lost in the District Finals to Lake Catholic. Hannah Recht `07 was named CVC MVP, and Bob Wiemer Coach of the Year. Men`s Varsity Golf took the CVC and Sectional Championships, with Tyler Kirsch `06 being named CVC MVP, and Bert Kovarik Coach of the Year. Women`s Varsity Golf finished 3rd in the conference. Women`s Varsity Field Hockey finished with their best record in three years at 10-3-1. The Varsity Football team finished the season with six consecutive wins to end their season at 6-4. Hawken won a share of the CVC Division Football Championship, and Cliff Walton will share Coach of the Year. Gioia Garden `07 advanced to the State Finals in Women`s Tennis, and finished 4th in the State of Ohio. The Women`s tennis team was CVC Champion, Tina Beilinson GÇÿ07 CVC MVP, and Arun Jetli was Coach of the Year. Davis Filippell `08 qualified for regionals in Cross Country. The Women`s Varsity Volleyball Team improved steadily over the season. Middle School Boys` Football finished a very strong season at 5 GÇô 2. The Girls` Tennis Team was unstoppable and completed the season undefeated, 11-0. Boys` Cross Country ran solid finishing at 4 GÇô4. Dylan Ford `12 broke the meet record at West G and took top honors at the Mentor Invitational. Girls` Volleyball won more games than any team in recent memory, finishing 8-6 and continuing an upward trend in volleyball in the Middle School. Co-ed soccer ended the season 5-4. An inexperienced Field Hockey Team improved steadily during the season and finished the season with 4 losses, two ties and one win.
