Former Teacher Helps Bring Carousel to Life

Former faculty member Terry Kovel, who became a well-known antique expert and author, was interviewed recently about her part in the resurrection of the beloved Euclid Beach Park Carousel.

In an engaging interview with Russ Mitchell of WKYC-TV, Kovel explains her part in the restoration of the carousel and its grand opening in November at the Western Reserve Historical Society.

As board chair of the Cleveland Carousel Society, Kovel headed fundraising efforts, continuing the labor of love started by her late husband, Ralph Kovel.

The carousel operated at Euclid Beach Park from 1910 to 1969, and after changing hands and undergoing years of expert restoration, the carousel opened to the public on November 23. Rides are included in the price of admission to the Historical Society and the carousel will be open on December 7 during Circle Fest, where you can also enjoy events at Hawken's Gries Center.

Kovel was a reading specialist and mathematics teacher at Hawken's Lyndhurst campus from 1960 to 1971. In addition to her work for the carousel society, she runs a popular website, kovels.com, that boasts more than 900,000 free prices of antique objects.
