Hawken Wins State Title in Knowledge Master

The Hawken Middle School 7th-8th grade team came in first in the state of Ohio in the Fall Knowledge Master Open on December 5. This computerized academic competition asks students to work as a team to answer 200 questions on topics that include history, math, science, current events, language arts, and fine arts. The questions require not only knowledge, but also application and analytical skills.The teams receive points based upon both accuracy and speed. Our students were able to read the questions with answer choices, and then analyze, discuss, and answer them in an average time less than 21 seconds.

In addition to the State title, the team scored well enough to be placed 5th among all schools worldwide in our size range of 200-499 students. Although we are one of the smallest schools in our category, we have a team that is right at the top in terms of knowledge and skills.
