Rope Jumper to Compete on Team USA

Grace Huang ’13 will compete on Team USA at the competitive jump rope World Competition to be held in Florida this August. This World Competition is the closest thing to international level, Olympic type competition in the team sport that combines jump rope skills with gymnastics and breakdancing.

Grace has been a member of Heartbeats, a Medina based, not-for-profit, amateur competitive jump organization, for six years. Grace and her team qualified for the World Competition at the US World Trials held in Brighton, MI, against many other teams, including teams from Colorado, California, Florida, Idaho, Michigan and Texas.

The Heartbeats recently marked their 20 year anniversary, and have a reputation for fielding top of the line student athletes for national and international competition. Grace’s interest in the sport developed after she attended one of their community presentations.

“There were people doing backflips and leaping over 3 people into ropes, and I was so impressed. After that, I took lessons for a few months, then tried out for the team and have been jumping ever since,” Huang said.

The Heartbeats will also compete in Regionals, to be held March 31st in Bath Ohio, to qualify for Nationals, to be held later this year in Long Beach, California.
