Young artists shine at regional art competition

Twelve Upper and Middle School artists were recognized for their bodies of work in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards regional competition. As part of winning, the students` work will be displayed in the Cleveland Institute of Art`s Reinberger Galleries until February 3. Here`s a breakdown of the winners and the names and categories of their work. Gold Key Award Kelsey Ellison, sophomore - Izzie, sculpture Leslie Farinacci, senior - Look into a Different Light, painting Alyssa Hoffman, junior - American Dreamer, computer art Aaron Kohn, sophomore - Kick Talk (TM), video and film Silver Key Award Mustafa Ascha, senior - Empty Parking Lot, computer art Leslie Farinacci, senior (two silver keys) - A Young Girl`s Place; Daughter, paintings Dana Lee, sophomore, Eyes on Korea, sculpture Lauren Vandevier, junior - Self Portrait, painting Honorable Mention Mona Ascha, junior - Untitled, painting Fiona Hensley, junior - Self Portrait in Naturalistic Image, sculpture Samantha Kadis, junior - Greece, photography Natalia Kaplan, senior - Waiting for Coin of Death, ceramics and glass Elizabeth McBean, senior - Woman, drawing Kalle Nelson, eighth grade - Cut from the Root, sculpture Gold Key winners qualify for the national competition and will have their work forwarded to New York City after its display at the Institute. The Awards are sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artist and Writers.
