MacEwan,Hilborn Named as Lower School Administrative Team

On May 10, 2005, Head of School James S. Berkman announced that Kathleen A. MacEwan, Acting Director of the Lower School, will become the permanent director, effective immediately. She had been the Acting Director since July, 2004. In making the announcment in the form of a letter to the Hawken community, Berkman commended MacEwan`s long-standing commitment to Hawken and to the Lower School in particular. He praised her efforts to communicate with parents through monthly divisional newsletters, her collaboration with PS-Math Chair Chris Lowber to articulate and implement the Math Program, and her examination of the current Preschool structure. MacEwan will be joined by Mary Beth Hilborn, the current Acting Assistant Director of the Lower to School, who has also accepted her position on a permanent basis. Berkman noted that Hilborn is "especially appreciated for her gentle manner and her strong communicative style, which are equally well received by parents, students, and colleagues."
