BRECKSVILLE--Robin Bauer was selected from the 20-plus applicants to fill the shoes of Winnie Flynn as executive director for Brecksville Center for the Arts.

After 21/2 years, Flynn stepped down so she could spend more time with her family and help her daughter, who is expecting child No. 3.

Bauer said he heard about the position from a former BCA trustee and decided to apply.

According to BCA Board of Trustees president Penny Burns, Bauer was a favorite of those who interviewed him.

"We had a plethora of good candidates," Burns said. "He has excellent credentials"

Burns said the job of executive director is multi-faceted, and the ideal candidate needs to have artistic talent and business experience.

"We felt Rob fit that bill," she said.

Bauer, a North Royalton resident, comes from a background in business management, having received his bachelor's degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and a master's degree in nonprofit management from the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Case Western Reserve University.

He has worked for ideastream, Hawken School, the Cleveland Zoological Society and, most recently, the Cleveland Sight Center as manager of the annual fund.

Although it only is his first week on the job, Bauer said he will work to make sure the BCA always is available to the community.

"I think we've had a couple very strong, healthy years," he said. "Now, it's just trying to figure out what the community wants in the future, and meeting that."

Bauer went on to say he is amazed at the breadth and scope of offerings BCA makes available to the community, adding it's too soon to say what he may want to add.

"I'm very excited to be here. It's a great organization and I'm really looking forward to it," Bauer said.

As for Flynn, although her last day was Dec. 14, she assured she will volunteer at BCA, as well as continue to be a student at the center.

Flynn said the arrival of Bauer brings fresh ideas and a new shot of life into the BCA.

"It's exciting," she said. "It's wonderful having somebody like Rob here."
