Hawks Garner Accolades at Science Fairs

During the month of March, numerous Hawks competed in external science fairs and garnered impressive results.

On March 7, Leen Akras ’27, Ayat Jaffar ’27, and Zakarias Shishehbor ’27 competed in the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair (BSEF), where Ayat brought home the Grand Prize! As a result, he will be making a trip to Regeneron’s International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix in May.

On March 21, Leen Akras ‘27, Ayat Jaffar ‘27, and Asal Mohammadi ‘27, Zakarias Shishebor ‘27, and Riyansh Arora ‘29 represented Hawken in the Ohio Academy of Science’s Regional Science Day. All 5 students received a “Superior” ranking and qualified to State Science Day in Columbus in May! In addition to qualifying for States, Leen won the United States Naval Science Award, Ayat placed 3rd for the Microscopy Society of Northeast Ohio Award, and Ayat Jaffar and Asal Mohammadi were both offered a paid Summer Undergraduate Research Experience to work with a researcher at Kent State University for eight weeks.

Finally, on March 12, fifteen Hawks competed at the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF), where over 300 students from 47 schools in Northeast Ohio presented their projects to experts in their respective STEM fields. Our Hawks brought home prizes in Biology, Math and Computer Science, Environmental Science, Health and Medicine, and Engineering, as well as multiple prizes in several professional award categories, and many students received cash prizes and were invited to additional conferences. Every student either placed or received and Honorable Mention in their category. See below for the full list of NEOSEF awards.
