Made possible by the generous support of the Hawken community and in recognition of a lead gift by Dan and Ellie Hurwitz, Hurwitz Hall opened in August 2013. In addition to providing 5,540 square feet of new space and 8,125 square feet of renovated space, the renovated Lower School facilitates Hawken’s innovative curriculum and offers additional classroom space to meet increased enrollment demand while keeping classes small.
Upgrades provided by Hurwitz Hall include:
Increased 2nd and 3rd grade classroom space to accommodate curriculum needs and provide classroom consistency throughout the facility
The addition of a kindergarten and a 1st grade classroom
The creation of a community common space in the 2nd and 3rd grade area that will be similar in nature to the signature Nido
Renovation of “the link” and the performing arts classrooms to create a Musical Arts Center
The remodeling and relocation of the dedicated lower school science room
New homes for the Learning Enrichment Center and a flexible space for music, language and exploration
Restoration of the Lobby to create an entry atrium with a new vestibule
Exterior remodeling to create a seamless architectural exterior design, which includes the installation of a third cupola
An independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school, toddler through grade 12
