Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2023

MLK Day invites us not only to pause and reflect on the impact of such a dynamic leader but also to consider ways to make our Hawken community more equitable and just. Students across our campuses will engage in a variety of experiences to mark the importance of Dr. King’s legacy. Students in the Lower School will read books to learn more about Dr. King’s work. Middle School students will research unsung heroes and changemakers who embodied similar leadership qualities as Dr. King in their fight for justice. The Mastery School will enjoy student performances and complete a vision board activity on how to achieve the Beloved Community about which Dr. King spoke. In addition, Hawken alumna Dr. Regennia N. Williams ‘77, will address the Upper School on examining the collaborative work of Dr. King and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. Our community is excited about this time of learning, engagement, and growth.

Here are some resources to learn more about Dr. King’s life and legacy.
