Athletics Camps

Hawken Athletics Camps offer skill-driven, sport-centered instruction for individuals seeking to improve their game. Taught the “Hawken way” and led by Hawken coaches, Hawken Athletics Summer Camps are a chance for young athletes to hone their skills, improve team-play and learn from the best. Campers will work hard, test their limits and have a blast doing it. Instruction will be structured around individualized skill development, team-play components, situational games and live-action play.
In addition to daily activities, camp participants will receive a Hawken Athletics T-shirt. Drop off and pick up are located at the specific venue where the camp will take place (court, field, etc.). Transportation and pre- and after-care are NOT available for Athletics Summer Camps.
All Hawken Athletics Summer Camps must meet minimum enrollment numbers by May 4, 2018 for camps to proceed. Early registration is encouraged and allows us to guarantee camps at earlier dates, as soon as enrollment is sufficient. A $50 non-refundable deposit must accompany the registration form. This deposit will be applied to the total camp cost. No sibling discounts are available.


Girls & Boys Hawken Soccer Camp

Gates Mills Campus

Hawken Soccer Camp is a one-week soccer camp for young players, boys and girls, 5-14 years old (entering kindergarten through eighth grade). Hawken Soccer Camp will be led by Hawken School varsity soccer coaches, as well as area club and high school coaches and players. Each day we will focus on different skill sets, including dribbling, passing and receiving, heading, crossing, shooting, and team play. In addition to skill development, emphasis will be placed on exciting soccer-based games such as small-sided games, skill games, and scrimmages. All sessions will be challenging and fun! Players will be divided into age and ability groups based on number of participants. Player-to-coach ratio will not exceed 12 to 1. All players will receive a Hawken Soccer Camp t-shirt. NOTE: Participants must bring their own lunch and drinks each day.
Pool time will be made available throughout the week. Camp will be led by Hawken Coaches and varsity players.

Hawken Football Camp

Ages 8 - 12

Hawken Football Camp will be three days where all participants practice fundamentals and have a chance to increase their knowledge of the game. Participants will learn position-specific alignments, assignments, and techniques such as route running, throwing, and blocking. Both offensive and defensive skills will be taught. All instruction will be without helmets and shoulder pads, and there will be no tackling. Game play will be a regular part of each day’s instruction, including flag football, where campers will have the opportunity to display their football skills in game situations. A t-shirt, shorts, and football cleats are necessary for the camp. Camp will be led by Hawken’s varsity and youth coaching staff, including head coach Brian Stephenson. Varsity football players will also be in attendance to support and teach our participants.


Girls Field Hockey Camp

Girls will receive group instruction and training as well as individual field hockey coaching. This camp will provide girls of all abilities the chance to develop individual skills while learning the necessary team elements to be successful field hockey players and take their game to the next level. This fast-paced, half-day camp will utilize a blend of drills and games that encourage healthy competition and fun. Camp will be led by Hawken coaches and varsity players. Hawken has a rich tradition of strong field hockey, and a history of sending many players on to highly successful collegiate careers. This camp will be coached by Hawken Head Coach Ahyodha “Fuzzy” Kishna. Fuzzy is the Director and Head Coach of the Cleveland Field Hockey Club, the foremost field hockey club in Northeast Ohio. He is a former international field hockey player who represented Guyana as a goalkeeper and was then called up to play as a forward after he retired from goalkeeping. Coach Kishna has coached men’s teams, women’s collegiate field hockey, and girls high school teams.


Girls & Boys Tennis Camp

Tennis camp will combine fun activities, tennis skill games, and individualized instruction for the novice and experienced tennis player. Led by season tennis professionals and Hawken varsity players, emphasis will be placed on service, mechanics, ground strokes, volleying, defensive play, and both singles and doubles strategies. Camp is held on the beautiful, state-of-the-art tennis facility at Hawken Upper School. All campers will receive a camp shirt. Tennis balls will be provided. NOTE: Campers should come with a pair of proper tennis shoes, their own racquet, and a water bottle. Camp will be led by Hawken coaches and varsity players, including boys and girls head coach Brian Smallwood. Coach Smallwood has led the Hawken boys tennis team to two consecutive state runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2017, and 3rd place in 2018. He has trained 28 high school state qualifiers to the OHSAA Tournament and from 1999-2015 developed 42 collegiate players who have played at Division I, II and III colleges.


Girls & Boys Lacrosse Camp

Hawken Lacrosse Camp is a great opportunity for the both the experienced player and as an introduction to the “Fastest Game on Two Feet!” This camp will provide campers of all abilities the chance to develop individual skills while learning the necessary team elements to be successful lacrosse players and take their game to the next level. Beginner campers will focus on ground balls, cradling, dodging, throwing/catching, and shooting; Experienced campers will emphasize these skills as well as speed and agility, position-specific training, and “lacrosse IQ,” utilizing film study and game situations. Both camps will feature situational play, instructional lacrosse games, scrimmages, and an experienced staff. FIRST 20 registrations for Boys and FIRST 20 registrations for Girls will receive a Nike Lacrosse Head! Camp will be led by Hawken coaches and varsity players, including head coaches Dan Usaj (Boys) and Jim Newman (Girls). Whether learning the basics of the game or taking another step forward as a lacrosse player and athlete, please join our staff for what promises to be a fun and exciting 4 days at Hawken School! Girls Volleyball Camp

Girls will receive group instruction as well as individual instruction in both general volleyball skills and position-specific skills. Camp will be fast-paced and fun and will provide excellent learning opportunities for both experienced players and those new to the game. This camp will combine volleyball skill games, fun activities, drills, scrimmages, and competitive play to make for an exciting week of Hawken volleyball! Camp will be led by Hawken coaches and varsity players, including Hawken head coach Patty Hace. Coach Hace played collegiate volleyball at Kenyon College, and has been coaching Hawken basketball and volleyball for the past nine years.

Cavs Academy Summer Camp is the only official youth basketball training program of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
