Michael O’Neill was the first head coach of Girls Varsity Golf at Hawken School in 2004. He left Hawken after the 2007 season, but returned to coach the team in 2017, leading the 2017 squad to a third place finish in the Chagrin Valley Conference, a third place finish at sectionals, and a district qualification. Michael has also coached fastpitch softball at the Middle and Upper Schools at Hawken, and a running program for Lower School students.
While we always aim for CVC, sectional, district, and state championships, Hawken Golf is a character-first program. High school golf is a game with no officials – players must monitor their own play, scoring, and thus, integrity and Fair Play are of the utmost importance. Moreover, conduct, focus, and resiliency must also be in one’s bag if success is expected.

The Hawken Girls Cross Country team traveled to Walsh Jesuit to compete in the Pat Ritchie Cross Country Invitational. The girls competed well in the rain and on the muddy double loop course to finish second behind Warren Howland 75 to 78 points.
As Athletic Director Jim Doyle commented after the girls swim team won the State Championship for the 20th consecutive year on Friday, "It was a meet for the ages tonight, one to add to the incredible legacy of Hawken Swimming. It was a meet where our swimmers saw triumph, heartbreak, agony, and exhilaration."
