Juniors Win National Science Essay Contest

Zade Akras ’18 and Vikash Modi ’18 were recently named winners of the NASA Cassini Scientist for a Day Essay Contest.

One of only three groups nationally in their age bracket to win, they were offered an opportunity to Skype with NASA astronauts in a teleconference held on Wednesday, May 24. Several fifth grade and middle school students who had also participated in the contest were invited to attend.

The contest promotes science literacy by giving students the opportunity to apply their critical thinking skills to a current NASA mission. They conduct research, watch videos by Cassini scientists and engineers, learn about Saturn, and apply their writing skills in answering the essay prompt.
