Hawken Hosts GCCTM Math Contest
The Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCCTM) Math Contest for middle school students was held on Saturday, March 4 at the Gates Mills campus.
Hawken's Middle School Math Department hosted about 100 students from five different area schools, including St. Gabriel’s in Mentor, University School, Brady Middle School, Chagrin Falls, and, of course, Hawken.
Hawken was represented by three eighth grade teams: Zach Zbanek, Thomas Wong, and Alex Shulman; Sweta Balaji, Lizzie Krajekian, and Krishna Mukunda; and Dani Doncevic, Juliana Metz, and Claire Marrie; two seventh grade teams: Milena Fernsler, Susanna Harrow, and Eva Cohen; and Austin Daly, Franny Connors, and Rithika Yalavarthy; and one sixth grade team: Grace Shum, Ella Wong, and Lucas Perusek.
Four rounds of challenging problems included mental math, a group “hurdles” problem-solving relay, and two additional rounds of integrated math events. Congratulations to every student for participating in this contest, and special accolades to our two team medal winners Zach, Thomas, and Alex and Austin, Franny, and Rithika!
