Senior Earns Spot on USA Linguistics Olympiad Team
Adithya Kalyanam ’21 recently placed 8th in the nation in the North American Computational Linguistics (NACLO) Open Invitational Round, earning him a spot on the 8-member USA team in the International Linguistics Olympiad. The 2021 competition was scheduled to take place in Latvia, but will be held remotely this year.
In addition, Adithya was one of four students to receive “Best Solution Award” for his work on a problem called “Cameroonian Compounds.” Although students can do practice problems ahead of time, there is little real preparation competitors can do – it’s all about their ingenuity, creativity, and problem-solving skills as they face completely unfamiliar problems.
