Senior Awarded Gates Scholarship

Hearty congratulations to senior Aniyah Nelson, who was recently named a Gates Scholar!

Aniyah was one of 300 selected from a pool of nearly 35,000 applicants. Each of the scholars will be awarded a good-through-graduation scholarship that can be used to pursue a degree in any undergraduate major at the accredited college or university of his or her choice. Aniyah plans to enroll in Brown University’s Class of 2025 and is interested in studying everything from applied mathematics-economics to statistics to political science.

Cristan Harris, Aniyah’s college counselor, writes, “One teacher described Aniyah as a ‘fearless, intellectual warrior,’ and I couldn’t agree more. Her academic curiosity is evident at every turn; watching her make connections is simply an awesome experience. She has been a vibrant contributor to academic life across the subjects and a generous participant in student life, from music to speech and debate. Her determination is inspiring, and I cannot wait to see the impact she makes on the world.
