Two 2020 Graduates Recognized for Achievement in Spanish

Congratulations to Maddy Eippert ’20 and Adele Metres ’20 on receiving national recognition for their achievements in Spanish!

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Hispanic Honor Society) awarded a Joseph Adams Senior Scholarship to Maddy. This honor is given to the 60 most outstanding senior members of the SHH, chosen from over 1,200 chapters nationally and internationally. Maddy served as the vice president of the Hawken chapter of the SHH, whose mission is to promote the study of Spanish, celebrate Hispanic cultures, and engage in service.

Adele received a second place scholarship through the National Spanish Examinations, which are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Students become eligible for the prestigious scholarship by scoring in either the gold, silver, or bronze categories on the National Spanish Examinations. Students must then submit an application form along with a sample of their Spanish language writing and speaking. Their written and oral proficiencies are evaluated by a committee. Only 60 students are chosen from among the 140,000 students who take the National Spanish Exams each year.
