Homecoming Reunion Weekend and HawkFest Draw Hundreds of Hawks

October's HawkFest and Homecoming Reunion Weekend 2019 was another smashing success, drawing more than 1,000 families, alumni, and guests onto the Gates Mills campus. The weather was perfect for this traditional fall weekend, and those in attendance at the various events were well-entertained.

The weekend opened with the 6th annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where we honored Larry Hauserman ’75 (football, wrestling, & baseball), Jim Pullin ‘99 (swimming & cross country), Sarah Ralston ’86 (swimming, track & field), Lori Shulman ’95 (tennis, basketball & softball), Rick Stacy (swimming coach from 1987 to present) and Bill Talley ’76 (football, basketball, and baseball). During their acceptance speeches, each of the inductees spoke about how the wins and losses were not what they took away from their experiences; rather, they talked about goal setting, hard work, and the value of teammates as lessons they have carried with them forever. Jim Pullin brought the audience to its feet with his spirited Hawken cheer. After the induction ceremony, students mingled with the new Hall of Fame inductees around tables of memorabilia from their days at Hawken and in college.

On Friday evening, the 8th annual Alumni Tailgate Party drew reunion classes to the White House for hearty hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and a chance to mingle with classmates, faculty, and other alumni. At the same time, nearly a thousand Hawken parents and students gathered outside Walton Stadium for HawkFest before the homecoming football game, where inflatables, lawn games, and spirit activities kept Hawken fans, young and old, cheering on the varsity football team. The Hawks were victorious over Richmond Heights by a score of 63 to 26. Go Hawks!

Saturday events included an alumni family picnic at the White House at noon. The weekend was capped off by class reunion parties scattered around the city.

Special thanks to the various reunion committees for planning a fun-filled, memorable weekend for Hawken alumni!
