Goldberg Innovation Lab Opens on Lyndhurst Campus

To the delight of students and teachers at Hawken’s Lyndhurst campus, the new Goldberg Family Innovation Lab opened its doors on Tuesday, November 13.

With this renovation of 3600 square feet of space, students will have the tools and ability to design, imagine, build, tinker, and learn through the model of maker empowerment – which, according to Harvard University’s Agency by Design project, develops "the inclination and capacity to shape one’s world through building, tinkering, re/designing, or hacking.”

Named after the Cathy and Larry Goldberg family in appreciation of their lead gift, this dedicated space for all Lyndhurst students features innovation, fabrication, robotics and discovery zones as well as classroom areas outfitted with cutting-edge tools and equipment.

Many thanks to all the donors whose generosity made this possible. Lead donor Larry Goldberg commented, “My family chose to take a leadership role in making the Innovation Lab a reality because we believe in Scott Looney’s vision for education. This addition to the Lyndhurst campus will enrich programming by supporting learning by doing – allowing students to come up with an idea for a project and then bring it to life. My family couldn’t be more proud to support this kind of learning experience for current and future generation of Hawken students.”
