Upper School Students Present at Annual STEMM Symposium

Hawken Science Research III students took part in the 10th annual Bob Maciunas STEMM Research Symposium on Thursday November 8, presenting their projects before a panel of expert judges, families, and other guests.
 
Topics ranged from developing a ground-penetrating radar to Cuyahoga County Opioids to protocol for athletic training rooms to reduce the risk of infection among athletes.  
 
Special congratulations to Bridget Lee '20, who took first place for her project, “Biodegradable Synthetic Platelets: Nanotechnology for Traumatic Bleeding;Daniel Kotrebai '20, who took second place for his project, “Calcium Signaling in Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Derived Schizophrenic Hippocampal Neurons and Neurons Derived From a Shortcut Differentiation Protocol;” and Adele Metres '20, who took third place for her project, “Exotic Plants Germinate Earlier Than Natives Now and in a Warmed Future.” These three top winners will be going to the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair along with the following students: Daniel Ecker '20, Dhruv Lakhanpal '20, Nina Vijayvargiya '19, Ishan Gupta '20, Jaya Perni '20, Mikhail Stiffler '20, Steven Sun '20, Amrita Mukunda '20, and Julia Newman '20.
