Indians CEO Presents Keynote at MS Chapel Grapple Kick-off

Last week, Cleveland Indians CEO Paul Dolan visited Hawken Middle School to kick off their yearly Chapel Grapple Character Education Unit, which this year focuses on the theme “Community, Membership, and the Indigenous Experience.”

In his keynote address, Dolan spoke about the transition of the Cleveland Indians logo from Chief Wahoo to the “block C” - and the many business and cultural reasons that influenced the decision to phase out the original logo.

During a Q & A session following his address, one student asked if the name “Indians” would ultimately be changed as well. While Dolan acknowledged that the team’s nickname “tribe” resonates with today’s culture in many ways, he basically concluded with this thought: “Time will tell.”
