Girls 3rd, Boys 4th in Inaugural Hawken Invitational

The Hawken Girls Cross Country Team opened the season with a 3rd place finish on their home course at the Hawken Cross Country Invitational. The teams from Chardon and Shaker Heights bested the Hawks on Saturday. The Hawks finished with four medalists in the meet. Ella Gilson ’21 won the race in a time of 19:25. Juliana Metz ’21 finished in 4th place in 21:29, Julia Newman ’20 finished 9th on 21:18 and Lena Sylvan ’21 was 23rd in 22:41. 

Amanda Lee ’22, Adele Metres ’20 and Jocelyn Chin ‘20 rounded out the top seven finishers for Hawken. The Hawks were ranked #1 in the Division II State Cross Country Coaches Pre-Season Poll. Next week the team travels to Mentor to compete in the Cardinal Classic on Saturday.

On the boys side, The Hawks finished in 4th place behind Shaker Heights, West Geauga, and Lake Ridge Academy.  Carlos Botella '20 finished in 8th place with a time of 19:10.43.  David Hamilton '22 was 16th at 19:47.91, Ben Greenfield was 20th at 20:23.06, Jacob Hlifka '22 was 23rd at 20:50.19, and Pedro Chiesa ''22 was 29th with 21:20.84.  Rounding out the top seven were Eli Jacobsen '19 and Ian McDaniel '19.  These Hawks also travel to Mentor this weekend.
