Senior Projects >
Resources
At Hawken, a senior project is an opportunity for qualified
seniors to challenge themselves beyond the academic curriculum. A project should
be a culminating Hawken experience, providing a transition
to college and to life beyond the classroom. Exploring a
career path, experiencing a professional or practical field,
serving a community, developing a skill-a senior project
at Hawken encourages self-discovery and responsibility.
Individual projects are initiated and organized by students
with the support of faculty advisors, along with the on-site
guidance of project sponsors who are the field professionals
with whom our students work directly. The planning process
for seniors begins formally in December of their senior
year. Each senior chooses a faculty project advisor, decides
on a field of interest, enlists a sponsor in that field,
and submits a formal project proposal to the Senior Project
Committee.
If the proposal is successful, and if the senior has successfully
completed his or her required academic courses, he or she
is free to undertake the project during the last five or
ten weeks of the senior year, the length of time depending
upon the scope of the project. While on project, the senior
submits a mid-term report to his/her project advisor, and
the senior concludes the project with a formal, final presentation
to a small group of advisors, parents, and other students.
A number of resources are available for planning and project
completion purposes. Below are the forms required of both
project sponsor and senior as well as a calendar of important
dates and deadlines.
Or, if you are searching for inspiration for your own project,
