The School
Founded in 1915, Hawken School is a nonsectarian, PK-12 coeducational, college preparatory school located on the east side of Cleveland. Two campuses incorporate 972 students representing a wide diversity of ethnic, religious and social groups. Eighteen percent of the student body is minority classified and 28 percent of the upper school receives financial aid. The upper school, comprised of 437 students, is located on the 300-acre Gates Mills campus.

The Faculty
There are 58 faculty at the upper school. Ten hold Ph.D.'s, in addition to 42 who have master's degrees.

Accreditation and Membership
Hawken School is accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States and the Ohio State Department of Education. Membership is held in the National Association for College Admission Counseling, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling, the College Entrance Examination Board and the College Board.

Grading System & Grade Distribution for the Class of 2008
Hawken does not rank its students. Historically, students found in the lowest quintile are accepted and succeed at competitive colleges. Grades are not weighted in the calculation of GPA distribution, and only academic courses only, including Health, are included.

Policy on the Reporting of Disciplinary Actions
Hawken School will report any disciplinary probation or suspension if it involves serious infractions or harmful patterns of behavior, as well as all dismissals from the School. Students are instructed to answer honestly any question regarding disciplinary violations.
