There are many types of books available to help you in your college search. Here are a few to get you started; you may find others in your local library or bookstore.

College Search
Barron's Compact Guide to Colleges 2006
In-depth profiles of more than 500 schools. (College Division of Barron's Educational Series, Inc. 2004).

Choosing the Right College: The Whole Truth About America's Top Schools with an introduction by William J. Bennett
An in-depth look at life at 110 colleges. (ISI Books, 2007)

The College Board's Book of Majors
This book lists over 900 major fields of study at 3600 colleges and has 27 different indexes with which to work. It gives a brief desciption of each major, lists the majors by state and college, and also lists the colleges represented in the book. (The College Board, 2007)

College Match by Steven R. Antonoff and Marie A. Friedmann
A blueprint for choosing the best match school for each individual, this book contains worksheets and self-studies for the student to complete. (Octameron Associates, 2006)

Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools You Should Know About Even If You're Not a Straight-A Student by Loren Pope
These schools have produced higher percentages of scientists and scholars than the prestige schools, and these colleges will accept "B" and "C" students as well as "A" students. (Viking Penguin Books, 2007)

The Insider's Guide to the Colleges 2008, compiled and edited by the staff of The Yale Daily News
Students on campus tell you what you really want to know. However, this book should only be used in conjunction with an unbiased guide. (St. Martin's Griffin, 2004)

Princeton Review's The Best 357 Colleges, 2005 Edition by Edward Custard
Includes an actual campus life survey where 59,000 students rate their schools' faculty, workload, social life, sports, and more. Specific admission requirements and details on financial aid options plus a college ranking system are also included. (Princeton Review, 2005)

Barron's Profiles of American Colleges 2006
Good general information on college facts and finances, college majors and college profiles - Includes CD-ROM. (Barron's Publishing, 2004)

The College Board College Handbook 2008, (published annually by The College Board)
Includes separate sections for 4-year and 2-year colleges, an early decision/early action table, a list of colleges by type, special characteristics, size, admission selectivity, and colleges with NCAA sports by division.

Peterson's 2005: 4 Year Colleges, (published annually by Peterson's)
This guide not only includes information on every US accredited four-year college, but has nearly 1,000 in-depth descriptions and a Majors Index.

Financial Aid
Barron's Complete College Financing Guide by Marguerite J. Dennis
This book has a great deal of information including copies of forms that are used for loans etc. (Barron's Educational Series, July 1997)

The College Board College Cost and Financial Aid Handbook 2005
This book includes detailed descriptions of 3,000 colleges including scholarships for freshmen, a student expense chart, aid programs, a freshman financial aid profile and when and how to apply for aid. (The College Board, 2004)

One of the most practical guides to the financial aid process, this book also targets many common myths about financial aid. (The College Board, 2004)

This book looks like it might be a fun way to gain some insight into the process of going away to school. (MacMillan Publishing, May 2001)

Get Off My Brain by Randall James McCutcheon
Contains techniques to help less-engaged students get more out of the high school experience. (Free Spirit Publishing, 1998)

High School Survival edited by Greg Gottesman and Daniel Baer
A crash course for students written entirely by current students across the country including the inside story on homework, the Internet, friends, dating and more. (Arco, 1999).

Hillel Guide to Jewish Life on Campus edited by Ruth Fredman Cernea
Expert advice on everything from enrollment to student organizations from Hillel, the world's largest Jewish campus organization. (Random House, 1999)
