Summer Day Camp

The Hawken Day Camp is a six-week program for boys and girls ages 4 through grade 6. Campers are grouped by grade and gender, and participate in both indoor and outdoor activities. Each activity is supervised by an adult senior counselor who is assisted by junior counselors. This year's day camps are scheduled for June 16-July 25, 2008.

The Hawken Day Camp programs are well-known and respected throughout the Greater Cleveland area. We attribute our success to the quality of our staff members -- some having been with us for more than 20 years. Small groups allow both staff and participants to form community bonds and to work together effectively during the entire session.

Transportation is available to and from the day camps. Vans and buses pick up participants at their homes before camp commences at 9:00 a.m., and return them after camp closes at 4:00 p.m. For those who require it, precare is available starting at 7:45 a.m.; after camp care is provided from 4:00 to 6:00. For lunch, camp participants enjoy a nutritious family-style meal at the Hawken dining facility.

In what activites do participants engage at camp?
Sports include archery, baseball or softball, basketball, frisbee, floor hockey, soccer, and tennis. Sportsmanship and fair play are stressed at all times. Counselors teach the fundamentals of each sport with individual improvement in mind. Swimming is a daily activity, and the campers are taught skills according to their ability, whether it be as a beginner or as a life saver.

Campers also receive outstanding instruction in the creative arts. For example, woodworking, painting, and other media are used to develop the camper's creative talents.

The Hawken Day Camp also exposes participants to a unique and impressive nature study program, as well as field trips, adventurous expeditions, daily 20-minute movies, and a variety of games. Weekly theme days and mystery guests add to the fun.

Every Friday is Special Events Day. These extra-special days feature fun events, such as a balloon launch, costumes, talent shows, bean carnivals, wacky olympics, picnics, watermelon hunt, mystery guests and more.

During the sixth week, we invite parents to join us for a day of fun at Day Camp. They have the opportunity of participating in events, as well as meeting the staff and experiencing the Day Camp first-hand.

Little Racquets™ Program Offered As NEW Hawken Summer Camp Program!
Do you want your child to learn a sport for a lifetime at Hawken Day Camp? Why not gather them together with their friends and participate in the Little Racquets tennis program. Little Racquets™ was developed by a certified tennis professional. It is a portable tennis program for PK children (ages 4-5) and children in Kindergarten and first grade in summer camp programs. From June 17-July 22, children will learn basic tennis, motor and social skills that lead to playing games on "short" courts with miniature nets, foam balls, tail balls (ribbon attached to ball) and junior size racquets. Little Racquets™ emphasizes FUN rather than competition through engaging the children in energizing activities such as: imaginative obstacle courses, agility ladder relay races, hitting stationary tennis cartoon targets, playing tennis baseball and mastering ABC forehand. No registration is required. All campers who fall within the age range will participate. Click here for more information about the program.

What if my child is a four- or five-year-old preschooler?
Hawken also offers a half-day camp for four and five year olds who have not yet attended kindergarten. This six-week session focuses on individual exploration and participation, group activities, weekly swimming, art projects, appreciation of nature, and music. Participants enjoy the camp's safe, nurturing environment that helps foster creative fun and learning in young boys and girls.
