Physics teacher Bob Shurtz was recently awarded a 2010 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Inspirational Teacher Award, which allows current MIT students “to recognize an outstanding secondary school teacher who inspired in them a love of learning and the creative spirit, encouraged them to pursue excellence, and gave them the skills and enthusiasm they need to make a positive difference in the world.” Mr. Shurtz was nominated by Kenan Diab ’07 for inspiring him through “dedicated and motivating teaching.”
In his nomination statement, Kenan wrote the following in reference to Mr. Shurtz: “The hours I spent working your calculus and physics problems paid off in countless ways during my time at Hawken…, but they have also reaped great rewards during my college years. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for your boundless dedication and enthusiasm.”
MIT expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Shurtz for his contributions to education and his positive impact on students. Congratulations, Mr. Shurtz!
