Affording Hawken

A Hawken education is an investment not only in your child but in the future – and the returns are priceless.

An ongoing U.S. Department of Education Study has revealed that, compared with their peers in public schools, students in independent schools watch less television, achieve the highest reading proficiency level, are more engaged with homework, extracurricular activities and athletics, take more advanced coursework, and have higher aspirations for post-secondary study.

Hawken School's unparalleled opportunities and challenging, innovative, and creative educational programs are funded solely through tuition revenue, endowment interest, capital giving, and the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the school who support the Annual Fund.

At Hawken, we do our best to make our education affordable and accessible to families. As such, we have the largest financial aid budget of area independent schools. We also have a Merit Scholarship Program for qualified students entering grades 9 and 10. And our Business Office has developed a variety of Payment Options to assist families in managing the cost of tuition.
Financial Assistance at Hawken
Financial Assistance is available to those students in grades K-12 who are accepted to Hawken and qualify for need-based assistance. Each year, Hawken School awards over $5 million to approximately 36% of the student body in Grades K-12. The majority of financial assistance is awarded to students in Grades 6 through 12. Students in Kindergarten through Grades 5 are welcome to apply for assistance, but grants at these grades are limited and rarely exceed 50% of tuition.
Hawken is committed to providing financial assistance to students whose families would otherwise be unable to consider Hawken School as an option for their children. The documents below may help you determine if financial assistance is right for your family.
To begin the Financial Assistance process, please submit the Request for Financial Assistance form to Hawken School. For more information please contact the Financial Assistance Office at 440-423-2955.

Payment Options
Enrollment Deposit Information
In order to enroll your child at Hawken School, families must submit the Enrollment Agreement via the Electronic Forms System link to the left. In addition, families should also submit the non-refundable tuition deposit amount indicated on the Enrollment Agreement. Deposits may be paid online using the links below for Electronic Payments or by mailing a check with the return envelope enclosed in your acceptance package.

Electronic Payments
• The online payment system requires a Student ID for families. For the purposes of this process, please enter the Student ID as the first initial of your child’s first name followed by the first four letters of your surname (for example, the Student ID for James Hawken would be, “JHawk”).
• Our payment processor, Sallie Mae, has a policy in place to prevent unintended duplicate payments. If more than one child is enrolling at Hawken, you may need to wait up to 10 minutes before paying deposits for multiple children using the same dollar amount and banking or credit card information. After the 10-minute delay, the second payment should go through.
