Announcing Hurwitz Hall

Hawken is pleased to announce that, due to the generous lead support of Daniel and Ellie Hurwitz and other contributing Hawken community members, the School is now able to move forward with the completion of its Lyndhurst campus renovation.

In recognition of Dan and Ellie’s generosity and leadership, the Lower School building will be named Hurwitz Hall, taking a rightful position of honor alongside Lincoln and Bolton Halls.

The renovations will provide a consistent classroom environment that facilitates Hawken's individualized and hands on curriculum. It also offers additional classroom space to meet increased enrollment demand while keeping class sizes small.

The project construction is expected to begin in mid-February and continue throughout the summer. Completion is expected by the start of the 2013-2014 academic year, August, 2013.
Renovations Will Include
Increased 2nd and 3rd grade classroom space to accommodate curriculum needs and provide classroom consistency throughout the facility.

The addition of a Kindergarten and a 1st grade classroom, bringing those grades to three sections each.

The creation of a community common space in the 2nd and 3rd grade area that will be similar in nature to the Early Childhood Center's signature Nido.

Renovation of the link and the performing arts classrooms including the addition of a fourth classroom.

Exterior remodeling that will create a seamless architectural exterior design, and will include the installation of a 3rd cupola.

Restoration of the Lobby to create an entry atrium with a new vestibule and redecorating.

Creation of new homes for the Learning Enrichment Center and a flexible space for music, language and explorations.

Relocation and remodeling of the Lower School science room.

Additional Lower School parking spaces and an additional driving lane.

Transformation of the façade will match the Early Childhood Center and Middle School, reflecting the continuity of Hawken programs from one phase of development to the next. Along with new roof lines, a third cupola will be added above a renovated Lobby. The addition will add 5,540 square feet of new space to the 2nd and 3rd grade area. Classrooms will have windows that look into a signature common space. Additionally, 8,125 square feet will be renovated within the Lower School building.
