Happy Birthday, James A. Hawken!
Happy Birthday to our school's founder, James A. Hawken! Mr. Hawken was born on July 14, 1882 into a large working class family and grew up in Rochester, NY.
As described in Hawken School's centennial book titled "Fair Play," Mr. Hawken was "reserved, soft-spoken, and gentle mannered, though a charismatic person who laughed easily and often, and made friends quickly."
