Brothers Place in National Chess Tournament

Hawken brothers Connor ’17 and Brennen '19 Keuchel were among 1528 students from 39 states competing at the National Grade Level Chess Championships held in Orlando December 12-14.

Connor, with four wins, two draws, and one loss tied for 3rd place and received the 10th place trophy after tie-break among 63 players in the grade 10 section.  Brennen, with five wins, one draw, and one loss tied for 4th and received the 7th place trophy after tie-break among 113 players in the grade 8 section. Connor was the 10th grade State Co-Champion at the 2014 Ohio Grade Level Chess Championships in November.  Connor and Brennen played as a team when both were Hawken Middle School students. They will play as a team again next year when Brennen starts his high school.
