Exchange Students, Now and Then
Hawken welcomes exchange students from Sweden and Germany this year.
Luisa Schunk, a sophomore from Ratingen, Germany, is staying with Fiona Lightbody ’16 (Richard ‘65 and Chris). Hannah Stihl, a junior from Helsingborg, Sweden, is staying with Hannah Reavis '15 (Laurie Beaulieu and Chris Mallett).
Both Luisa and Hannah can be seen playing on the girls’ tennis team. They also both like the varied course choices they have at Hawken and are finding students and teachers to be very friendly and helpful. Host families Lightbody and Beaulieu-Mallett have a great year planned for their new “daughters.”
Last year, Hawken welcomed Joel Brenscheidt to our community. Hosted by the Martin '82 and Kristen Schulz and the Eric and Andrea Hill families, Joel had a fantastic year as told in this video.
Exchange students have been a long standing tradition at Hawken. In August, Spanish exchange student and retired lawyer Manuel Blasco '67 visited the U.S. and spent an afternoon with classmates Dud Humphrey '68, Birkett Gibson '68, Jeff Biggar '68, Jon Boyd '67 and host brother Chuck Bittenbender '67.
Nicolas Crespi de Valldaura '14, who stayed with host family Meredith '85 and Michael Weil '85 during the 2012-2013 school year, stopped by the Hawken tent at Wade Oval Wednesdays in August.
