06/29/2007 - A documentary by Hawken junior Aaron Kohn was recently selected as a finalist in both the Kids Short Film and Short Documentary Film categories at the Moondance International Film Festival, which places him among the best of the best filmmakers internationally.

"Project Kick Talk" is Kohn's effort to raise awareness about global humanitarian issues and to mobilize Western citizens to come to the aid of those in need.

"I don't think many people in our Western world understand our global community," Kohn said in the trailer for his film.

"Our goal is to create a project in which we can improve awareness about the global community, so that people can help make a difference in the world."

Kohn traveled to Namibia in March 2006 to film the San children, who are descendants of the San Bushmen. He then brought that footage back to the United States, where it was incorporated into the curriculum of a fourth grade class.

"Fourth graders know little about the world," the Kick Talk Web site says.

"Students are able to look at the footage from Africa and realize that the kids in the video are talking about the same things they talk about, even though they live halfway around the world."

The Moondance Film Festival is widely known as the "American Cannes" and will be held on September 7-9 in Hollywood, California.
